Concrete

Concrete road builders are responsible for operating machinery to move heavy materials at construction sites, clear and grade land & build the roads using equipment and hand skill. Concrete road paving continues to get more advanced, concrete road builders need to be skilled enough to set up and inspect equipment, make adjustments and perform some maintenance and minor repairs. The equipment that is operated may include road graders, packers, air compressors, screeds, skidsters, concrete pavers, and payloaders.

Concrete road building also requires craftspeople that are skilled to have the eye to hand build curb, finish concrete and to ensure that the highest quality standards are being met. To start out in a field of concrete, you would begin as a laborer and work your way up as you become more skilled. Concrete laborers shovel concrete, set forms & work under the supervision and training of their career mentors. There are many different facets of concrete as well such as quality control, concrete sawing, concrete sealing & maintenance such as parking lot striping & sweeping.

Opp Construction was awarded 1st Place in the Municipal Division for the National AGC and Overall Grand Award Winner for Construction Safety Excellence for 2013. The safety of our team members, subcontractors, and the public is our top priority.

Asphalt

Asphalt Paving Team members are responsible for operating machinery to move heavy materials at construction sites, clear and grade land & build roads & parking lots using equipment and hand skill. Asphalt paving continues to get more advanced, and asphalt paving team members need to be skilled enough to set up and inspect equipment, make adjustments and perform some maintenance and minor repairs. The equipment that is operated may include pavers, rollers, tractors, skidsters & trucks.

Asphalt paving also requires a plant operator to operate the materials that are provided to build the pavement and a lab technician who is skilled enough to test the quality of the materials. Asphalt labors would shovel & rake asphalt, clean equipment, assist with sign control and assist with equipment maintenance and work under the supervision and training of their career mentors.

Equipment/Truck Driving

Equipment/Truck Drivers are responsible for doing either demo or dirt work for the construction sites. This is done by using heavy equipment and large trucks to haul construction materials. Equipment continues to get more advanced, equipment operators need to be skilled in maintaining and inspect equipment and performing some maintenance and minor repairs. Equipment operated includes backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, and payloaders.

These equipment operators need to be skilled enough to have the eye to operate the machinery in tight locations and to be able to understand the increasing technology. To start out in this division with no experience would be a challenge, although if you have your CDL operators permit and the ability to drive truck you could start out hauling material and work your way into the equipment as you gained experience.

Landscaping

Landscapers are responsible for working on residential, commercial & municipal projects and perform a variety of tasks.  Some of the tasks that are performed may include hydroseeding, mulching, sodding, watering, installing erosion control & plantings of nursery stock. Landscapers work in various sized teams based on the scope of the project.  Some landscapers will become trained to operate equipment including powered wheel barrows, dingo’s, tractors, hydro-seeders, concrete curbing machines & receive training to obtain a CDL license to drive dump truck.

Landscapers require craftspeople that are skilled and have the eye to succeed in Opp Construction’s mission of successfully serving our customer by providing a high quality project.  Opp Construction will provide the training needed to give you the skill sets to complete high quality projects.

Irrigation

Maintaining and installing underground irrigation systems is completed by trained irrigation technicians. Irrigation technicians must be skilled enough to understand the mechanics of building irrigation systems and all of the components that go into the proper installation. The equipment that is operated may include a trencher, dingo or tractor. Most irrigation work is completed by hand using mechanical skills.

Irrigation technicians need to be skilled enough to follow blueprints and troubleshoot irrigation issues for irrigation systems that have already been installed. To start out in a field of irrigation you would begin as a laborer and work your way up as you become more skilled. Irrigation laborers haul components to and from the job site, operate trenchers & do basic maintenance and installation for irrigation systems by working under the direct supervision of their career mentors.

Paving Stones

Concrete Stone Mason’s are responsible for building patios, sidewalks, and retaining walls by using segmental concrete building materials. Stone projects are often built on compacted aggregate base material. Stone building and design continue to become more advanced and masons need to be skilled in several areas. They must have knowledge of excavation and subgrade analysis, elevation and setting grades based on engineering requirements, knowledge of aggregate selection, and achieving proper base compaction. The knowledge of equipment needed to achieve a well-built project is also necessary. Equipment often used may include small excavators, skidsteers, plate compactors, masonry saws & several small hand tools.

Stone Masonry also requires craftspeople that are skilled to have the eye to look at a set of blueprints and construct the project to the design ensuring the highest quality standards are being met. To start out in a field of Stone Masonry you would begin as a laborer and work your way up as you become more skilled. Stone Laborers shovel dirt & sand, haul pavers, cut pavers & work under the supervision of their career mentors.

Shop Mechanics

Shop Mechanics are responsible for repairing and building equipment that is used in all facets of construction. They must be able to have the knowledge to trouble shoot and develop solutions to needs in the field. Shop mechanics would begin their career as a basic mechanic and work your way up as you become more skilled. A basic understanding of mechanics would be necessary, such as a college degree in mechanics.

Patio World/ Sales

Patio World is Opp Construction’s retail division that supply’s materials to retail customers and contractors. Patio World works closely with Opp Construction divisions to supply them with materials that they need to construct their projects. Patio World Team Members must be able to work with customers and have knowledge of computers to be in sales. Patio World employees operate equipment such as forklift, semi & payloader. To start out at Patio World you may begin in the yard and work with loading customers and assist the sales staff.

Estimators

Estimators work with customers to bid projects which are either previously designed or designed by the estimator as well. Estimators also work with the team members at Opp Construction to ensure the projects are being designed according to their plans using the highest quality materials and processes available.

Office

Opp Construction’s office staff assists all divisions, managers & estimators with completing their jobs. Career opportunities in the office would be administrative positions such as receptionist, payroll & accounts payable, management positions in Human Resources, Operations & Accounting.
